ABSTRACT
Postoperative wound complications after excisional surgery for primary breast cancer can result in patients requiring additional treatments and delay adjuvant therapy are associated with worse prognoses. We investigated factors that might predispose to complications.A number of patient characteristics have been complications, but there is currently no quantitative measure the risk their occurrence. Our hypothesis was related, part, immune status patients. We recruited undergoing determined circulating levels various cells shortly before as a status. One hundred seventeen were recruited; 16 (13.7%) developed complications. The following tumor higher complication rates: diabetes (P = 0.02); larger tumors (T2/3 vs T1; P metastatic axillary nodes 0.006). With respect status, significant differences preoperative detected between who those did not. However, showed greater reductions lymphocyte 4 hours postoperatively than not <0.001). Multivariate analyses demonstrated falls 20% or 50% acted independent predictor < 0.005 0.0001,respectively).Perioperative changes could provide practical predictive marker on which selective antibiotic prophylaxis be based.
