ABSTRACT
Objective: To compare short-term surgical outcomes and quality of life (QOL) between single-port laparoscopic cholecystectomy (SPLC) classic 4-port (CLC). Background: There is significant interest in further reducing the trauma associated with procedures. Although a number observational studies have suggested that SPLC feasible alternative to CLC, there lack data from randomized validating any benefit over CLC. Methods: Eligible patients were receive or Operative perioperative outcomes, including cosmesis QOL analyzed. Results: Forty-three (n = 21) CLC 22). no differences groups for most preoperative demographics, American Society Anesthesiology score, gallstone characteristics, local inflammation, blood loss, length stay. Patients undergoing older than those receiving (57.3 years vs. 45.8 years, P < 0.05). times greater (88.5 minutes 44.8 minutes, Overall cosmetic satisfaction, as determined by SF-36 survey, postoperative complications, post-operative pain scores discharge 2-week visit not significantly different groups. Wound infection rates similar both The group contained 1 retained bile duct stone, 1-port site hernia, port hemorrhage. Conclusions: procedure time was longer incurred more complications without benefits patient QOL. may be offered carefully selected patients. Larger trials performed later learning curve identify subtle advantages one method another.
