Comparison of three types of treatment modalities on the outcome of fingertip injuries

ABSTRACT
BACKGROUND In this retrospective study, we analyzed the outcomes of different types treatment fingertip injuries and compared them after a mean follow-up 4.5 years. METHODS A total 53 patients (59 injuries) were included in study. The classified according to Allen classification. categorized into three groups based on treatment: reconstructive group, bone-shortening conservative group. As objective assessments, strength, sensibility, goniometry measured; as subjective cold intolerance, nail deformation, aesthetics measured. RESULTS reduction Semmes-Weinstein monofilament test, mobility for injured fingers with those uninjured finger not significantly between groups. Cold intolerance was reported 50 (84.7%) 59 fingers, almost 90% all cases, there some kind distortion. For distortions, no difference aesthetic judged by surgeon comparable. CONCLUSION conclusion, outcome II, III, IV irrespective chosen. an era where enormous variety surgical options suggests that flap is best, at least surprising. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE Therapeutic level IV.
