The objective of the study was to describe aetiology, epidemiology and clinical characteristics principal causes acute infectious diarrhoea requiring hospitalization among children under 5 years age in Rabat, Morocco. A prospective conducted from March 2011 2012, designed main pathogens causing hospitalized >2 months less than age. Among 122 included study, enteroaggregative Escherichia coli (EAEC) rotavirus were aetiological detected. Twelve (9.8 %) referred an intensive care unit, while two, presenting infection by EAEC, EAEC plus Shigella sonnei, developed a haemolytic uraemic syndrome. Additionally, six (4.9 deaths occurred, with being isolated four these cases. Diarrhoeagenic E. play significant role as two severe diarrhoea, other pathogens, such norovirus parasites, seem have minimal contribution. Surveillance prevention programmes facilitate early recognition improved management potentially life-threatening episodes are needed.
