ABSTRACT
The roles of the three ORFs HP0208, HP0159 and HP1416 in biosynthesis Helicobacter pylori 26695 LPS were investigated this study. These represent a paralogous family genes with homology to Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium (hereafter referred as S. typhimurium) waaJ gene, which encodes an α-1,2-glycosyltransferase required for core biosynthesis. HP0208 contains multiple tandem repeats dimer 5′GA at its 5′ end expression is predicted be subject phase variation. number present ORF was found non-permissive majority H. strains examined. To determine role non-phase-variable, constitutively expressed variant constructed introduced into genome 26695. Analysis profile strain by Tricine-SDS-PAGE immunoblotting anti-Lewis Y antigen (Ley) mAbs confirmed LPS. A also established. Although homologous waaJ, failed complement typhimurium mutant, suggesting that these encode functionally different enzymes.
