ABSTRACT
The incidence and severity of hepatitis E virus (HEV) infection in pregnant women is high developing countries. Transplacental transmission HEV the third trimester pregnancy has been found to be associated with fetal mortality. Based on this evidence absence reports replication extrahepatic sites, study was carried out investigate if occurs placenta infected mothers. included 68 acute viral (AVH) 22 liver failure (ALF) patients. Viral RNA extracted from blood placenta. confirmed by a replicative negative-strand-specific reverse transcriptase PCR. load estimated real-time Immunohistochemical studies were also for situ detection placental tissue sections. Replicative detectable only ALF AVH cases not samples. Positive staining sections antibody against structural protein ORF3 observed. correlated maternal mortality It demonstrated first time that human may site humans.
