ABSTRACT
ABSTRACT Previously, we have described the laminar organization of neurons in supplementary eye field (SEF) that signal error, reward gain and loss, conflict, event timing, goal maintenance. Here describe visually responsive were active during performance a saccade stop-signal task. Nearly 40% isolated exhibited enhanced or suppressed responses to visual target for potential saccade, with majority exhibiting activity three-quarters broad spikes. Visually observed all layers but less common 5 6. Response latencies comparable those reported previously, which are significantly later than measured occipital temporal areas overlapping cingulate cortex. Task-related response latency varied across cortical layers. was earlier narrow Neurons task-related discharged until after production. Around three-fifths most sensitive appearing one hemifield. Many layer 2 had ipsilateral receptive fields. Laminar current-source density aligned on presentation revealed earliest sink 3 followed by prolonged strong more superficially coupled weaker transient The current stronger stimuli. These findings reveal new details about processing medial frontal cortex complete first catalogue functional signals lobe area.
