ABSTRACT
Zygnematophytes are the closest algal relatives of land plants. They hold key information to infer how earliest plants overcame barrage terrestrial stressors, prime which is osmotic stress. Here, we applied two stressors on a unicellular and multicellular representative zygnematophytes studied their response over 25-hour time course generating 130, 60, 30 transcriptomic, proteomic, metabolomic samples combined with photophysiology, sugar analysis, immunocytochemical glycoprotein microscopy. Our data highlight shared protein chassis that shows divergent responses same outcome: successful acclimation challenges. We establish model sisters can overcome stressor in habitat components plant terrestrialization toolkit.
