ABSTRACT
This paper develops a vector theory of cross-phase modulation (XPM) in optical fibers and use it to investigate the impact polarization-mode dispersion (PMD) on crosstalk induced by XPM wavelength-division multiplexed lightwave systems. Under certain reasonable approximations, permits us obtain an analytic expression for amplitude probe fluctuations copropagating pump channel through XPM. We this calculate average level XPM-induced together with its variance several maps. show that PMD not only reduces average, but also impacts efficiency commonly used polarization-interleaving technique.
