ABSTRACT
We investigate the effects of discrete reflection on performances upstream and downstream signals in wavelength-division-multiplexed passive optical network (WDM PON) implemented a single-fiber loopback configuration using reflective semiconductor amplifiers (RSOAs). first analyze beat interference (OBI) noise caused by reflection, clarify relation between tolerance network's operating conditions such as RSOA gain, link loss, location point, etc. The results show that impact can be expressed effective crosstalk level. then measured RSOA-based WDM PON, which signal at 1.25 Gb/s is remodulated subscriber's site for transmission 155-Mb/s signal. tolerances are to range -42 - 35 dB -29 -19 signals, depending gain. These small fact reflected light re-amplified RSOA. also dependence gain explained used evaluate impacts unwanted reflections PON.
