ABSTRACT
An all-optical format conversion (AOFC) scheme of star-m-ary quadrature amplitude modulation (star-mQAM) based on a nonlinear Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) with nested-pump assisted optical loop mirror (nested-PA-NOLM) is proposed and numerically simulated. In this scheme, input multi-Gbps star-8QAM signals can be converted into three phase shift keying (QPSK) (namely QPSK-A, -B -C) through the PA-NOLM under different power signal pump. The MZI formed by two PA-NOLMs upper lower arms, former latter 3-dB couplers (OCs), directional variable attenuator (VOA) in arm shifter (VPS) arm. A VOA VPS are used to adjust ratio (PR) relative (RPS) between any -C. When adjusted -C coherently superposed, aggregated extracted again. Furthermore, also convert 20 Gbps bipolar 4-ary pulse (PAM4) 10 BPSK QPSK signal. combined phase-sensitive amplification (PSA), it one 16QAM signals. performance analyzed via constellation diagrams, waveforms, error vector magnitude (EVM) bit rate (BER) not only deployed gateways connect networks using formats, but has potential applied advantage security information transmission networks.
