Work‐based concerns of Australian frontline healthcare workers during the first wave of the COVID‐19 pandemic

ABSTRACT
This research sought to gauge the extent which doctors, nurses and paramedics in Australia were concerned about contracting SARS-CoV-2 during country's first wave of virus April 2020.Australian registered (n=580) completed an online questionnaire 16-30, 2020 (period immediately following highest four-week period (first wave) confirmed cases Australia).During 2020, two-thirds participants felt it was likely they would contract at work. Half suggested Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) supplies inadequate for them safely perform their job, with suggesting management advised alter normal PPE use. One-third dissatisfied employer's communication COVID-19 related information. Conclusions implications public health: After reports shortages Australia's wave, suggestions access still limited second five months later, we must forecast this future pandemics ensuring adequate frontline healthcare workers. Further, consistent standardised pathways staff (acknowledging reality that information may rapidly change) will help alleviate frustration anxiety.
