ABSTRACT
Abstract The Arctic fox ( Vulpes lagopus ) is the only species occurring in and has adapted to its extreme climatic conditions. Currently, molecular basis of adaptation climate not been characterized. Here, we applied PacBio sequencing chromosome structure capture technique assemble first V . genome assembly, which assembled into fragments. assembly a total length 2.345 Gb with contig N50 31.848 Mb scaffold 131.537 Mb, consisting 25 pseudochromosomal scaffolds. had approximately 32.33% repeat sequences. In total, 21,278 protein‐coding genes were predicted, 99.14% functionally annotated. Compared 12 other mammals, was most closely related an estimated divergence time ~7.1 Ma. expanded gene families positively selected potentially play roles environment. This high‐quality will promote future studies genetic diversity evolution foxes canids but also provide important resources for conservation species.
