Parturients' perspectives on labor pain and epidural analgesia: A protocol for an explorative qualitative study

ABSTRACT
Abstract Background Childbirth is a significant life event often accompanied by intense pain. Although pain perception highly subjective and influenced multiple factors, its management frequently focused solely on intensity. Epidural analgesia (EA) the most effective form of labor relief; however, there limited qualitative research which aspects relief parturients perceive as successful with EA. Understanding parturients’ perspectives EA can help improve patient‐centered care enhance strategies. Aim This study aims to explore parturients' during EA, identifying key that contribute their overall childbirth experience. Methods A qualitative, semi‐structured interview will be conducted at Herlev Hospital, Denmark. Approximately 10–15 who received recruited using purposive sampling within 24 hours postpartum. Interviews recorded, transcribed, analyzed Braun Clarke's thematic analysis framework. Data collection continue until sufficient information power reached. Ethical Considerations The has been approved Danish Protection Agency (case no. P‐2025‐18241) adheres Declaration Helsinki. Informed consent obtained from all participants, data anonymized ensure confidentiality. Expected Outcomes expected generate new insights into experiences contributing development patient‐reported outcome measures informing future clinical practice. Findings may also support creation standardized assessment tools influence policies management. Dissemination Results published in peer‐reviewed journal presented national international conferences inform both practice research.
