Executive summary of the SAEM 2022 consensus conference to address racism in emergency medicine clinical research, training, and leadership

ABSTRACT
Racism has not only contributed to disparities in health care outcomes, but also negatively impacted the recruitment, retention, and promotion of historically excluded groups academic medicine. The 2022 Society for Academic Emergency Medicine (SAEM) consensus conference, "Diversity, Equity, Inclusion: Developing a Research Agenda Addressing Medicine," convened diverse group researchers, educators, administrative leaders, providers help address impact racism three domains emergency medicine: clinical research, education training, leadership. main goals process were identify current knowledge gaps create research agenda within each domain using an iterative consensus-building methodology.The planning committee identified fundamental develop created workgroups who completed literature search knowledge. After building process, potential questions presented at in-person conference. Ninety SAEM members representing faculty trainees participated breakout generate recommendations priority research.For with six (n) identified: remedies bias systematic (3), biases heuristics (2), study design (1). For seven curriculum assessment recruitment (1), learning environment (4). leadership, five understanding diversity, equity, inclusion (DEI) landscape culture analyzing programs that improve DEI identifying factors lead improved diversity quantifying value professional stewardship activities (1).This article reports results conference goal influencing education, policy facilitating collaborations, grant funding, publications these domains.
