ABSTRACT
Abstract The adult, pupa, larva and biology of Adenogasteria leguminivora Davis & Vargas gen. et sp. nov. (Lepidoptera: Gracillariidae: Ornixolinae) from Peru Chile are described illustrated. This micromoth was previously reported in the agronomic literature as a pest Caesalpinia spinosa (Molina) (Fabaceae) Peru, but its taxonomic status remained unknown until now. Its larvae feed on seeds three legume trees: Acacia macracantha , C. Inga feuillei . superficially resembles other sympatric gracillariids can be separated key morphological features host plant preferences. Eggs A. laid fruit surface, where burrows it reaches cotyledons, which mined by two early (sap‐feeding) instars almost completely consumed last (tissue‐feeding) instars. Subsequently, mature leaves constructs an elongated silk cocoon ornamented with few bubbles before pupation. A maximum likelihood analysis DNA barcodes clustered sequences single independent phylogenetic unit within Ornixolinae, sister to Chileoptilia + Philodoria clade, regardless geographic origin samples. genetic divergence nearest neighbour COI >10%.
