ABSTRACT
Abstract Morphofunctional characteristics of the large intestine are rarely explored to understand physiology, behavior and ecology neotropical primates. In this study, we analyzed histometric parameters hybrid marmosets ( Callithrix sp.) captured in forest fragments Viçosa‐Brazil, under seasonal interference. These animals were predominantly insectivorous rainy season gummivores dry season. Large collected processed according histological methods stained with toluidine blue for general analysis, periodic acid Schiff (PAS) Alcian (AB) goblet cells, Grimelius Masson Fontana argyrophil argentaffin endocrine cells. Several more expressive marmosets: greater thickness parietal layers, number AB‐positive favor secretomotor functions reduce passage time fecal bolus, which is consistent an diet. contrast, such as crypt width, height absorptive cells striated border, PAS‐positive marmosets, reflecting need longer digestion absorption food items from tree gum, complex demand action microorganisms present intestine, well protection against abrasive dietary fibers microorganisms. Thus, it can be said that marmoset's has morphological adaptations maximize energy intake diet, alternates influence seasonality.
