ABSTRACT
Indoor air contaminants may act as endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs). However, to what extent these affect health is poorly known. We aimed assess the association between EDCs exposure and asthma, respiratory symptoms obesity in schoolchildren.Data from a cross-sectional analysis of 815 participants 20 schools Porto, Portugal, were analysed. Symptoms assessed, asthma was defined on lung function, airway reversibility body mass index (BMI) calculated. The concentrations 13 volatile organic compounds 2 aldehydes identified measured 71 classrooms throughout 1 week. Principal component (PCA) used effect co-exposure. Associations estimated by regression coefficients using linear logistic models.Increased individual combined levels found having more children with obesity. Higher hexane, styrene, cyclohexanone, butylated hydroxytoluene 2-butoxyethanol associated obesity, higher cyclohexanone increased child BMI. Toluene, o-xylene, m/p-xylene ethylbenzene significantly nasal obstruction. A positive PC1 risk obese (OR = 1.43, 95% CI 1.01, 1.98) PC2 overweight 1.51, 1.28, 1.79). also obstruction, breathing difficulties lean mass, although low.Our findings further support role development. Moreover, even low indoor influence
