ABSTRACT
Abstract Background The breast reconstruction (BR) rate for women undergoing mastectomy cancer management is 18% in Australia. Australian Access to Breast Reconstruction Collaborative Group recommends that all should have access BR. This study presents BR uptake and outcomes from a surgical unit. Methods A retrospective observational identified who had curative between 1 January 2016 31 December 2021. Patient factors complications were compared no (NBR) patients. Results Out of 929 mastectomy, 34% underwent reconstruction. Of this, 89% immediate, 11% delayed. increased 27% (2016) 35% (2021). During this time, 588 discussion documented at their initial consultation, 58 after surgery 283 not documented. prior 38% 74%. Women more likely be younger, premenopausal less diabetic. Complications requiring return theatre higher reconstructed (13% vs. 7%). Overall, infected seroma, cellulitis intravenous antibiotics haematoma drainage comparable both groups.
