Australian experience of side‐to‐side isoperistaltic stricturoplasty in Crohn's disease

ABSTRACT
The Michelassi stricturoplasty has demonstrated efficacy for Crohn's disease in European and American series but not had uptake Australia. We report the short-term results of side-to-side isoperistaltic (SSIS) an Australian Practice.Between March 2015 October 2021 SSIS procedures were performed on patients with long segment strictures associated obstructive symptoms, despite best medical therapy. Surgical demographics recorded via inpatient outpatient follow-up a prospective database.Twenty-one 16 patients, nine female, mean age 40 years. Single incision laparoscopic surgery (SILS) was used 10 patients. standard 11 Poggioli variant 10. Mean stricture length 32 cm (range 5-100); 24 6-55). Associated bowel resection seven cases 47 mm. Ten average three additional stricturoplasties. Complications included central line sepsis one, deep surgical site infection one superficial wound four duration operation; 346 min stay days.SSIS techniques are safe management stricturing disease. Although widely Australia, surgeons should consider stricturoplasty, its variants, as they whilst avoiding blind pouches.
