Papillophlebitis: A case series of a controversial diagnosis

ABSTRACT
Aims/Purpose: Papillophlebitis refers to an isolated optic disc oedema with venous engorgement in asymptomatic patients as defined by Walsh and Hoyt 1969. We report a case series of 3 who developed papillophlebitis related SARS‐CoV‐2 vaccination, type 2 diabetes or idiopathic. A literature review was also performed. Methods: Observational the covering cases performed using Pubmed, Embase Web Science. Cases presenting visual loss, RAPD, field defect retinal vascular occlusion were excluded. Results: did not have any complain presented unilateral found chance. The 1st patient 33 year‐old her past medical history significant for SARS‐Cov‐2 vaccination. 2nd 6 general good health. 3rd known no complications. For all patients, acuity 1.0, intraocular pressure normal, anterior segment quiet fundus showed without haemorrhage. RNFL OCT confirmed presence oedema. normal. An extensive blood test negative auto‐immune, inflammatory disease. In our decreased spontaneously after couple months treatment they retain 1.0 vision. diagnosis made. literature, term is well‐defined controversial. No required, condition resolved over time. prognosis excellent keep vision normal function. recurrence has been reported. Conclusions: diagnosed ruling out inflammatory, infectious auto‐immune disease present spontaneous recovery reported cases.
