ABSTRACT
To provide epidemiological data on pertussis in a highly vaccinated paediatric population, focusing the age of infected children.We analysed from regional hospital discharge database children hospitalised for Tuscany, Italy, January 2000 to December 2012.A total 279 cases were recorded. The majority infants (75.6%), who had highest rate complications (24.2%) any group and crude mortality 9.47 per 1000. overall hospitalisation decreased significantly during study period, 4.23 2.82 100 000, but when we by groups, found notable differences. Hospitalisation rates 1- 4-year-old year zero 000 2012 5- 9-year-old over same 6.58 0.63 000. Overall infant remained high at 53.14 with three peaks due periodic outbreaks.Pertussis is still relevant health concern are unvaccinated or incompletely immunised, both terms morbidity mortality.
