ABSTRACT
While efforts have focused on the prevention of overt upper gastrointestinal bleeding (UGIB), little is known about occult GIB, which might also originate from sites not protected by acid inhibition. To measure incidence and outcomes both GIB over a 6-year period (2007-2012), to assess use NSAIDs, anti-thrombotic therapy (ATT), proton pump inhibitors (PPIs), iron therapy.A sample 300 patients (100 each three index years) with was randomly selected their were compared those UGIB (N = 869).The fell 140.1 per 100 000 population annum in 2007 106.8 2010 88.0 2012 (P < 0.001); while that rose 243.1 263.6 292.8 0.001) same period. The highly correlated number prescriptions PPIs 1000 (χ(2) trend 11.80; P 0.001). In group, median haemoglobin level presentation lowest (10.3) taking NSAIDs/ATT plus alone (11.5), (10.4) or none these drugs (12.7 g/dL) 0.001, Kruskal-Wallis).An inverse seems formed vs. association wider NSAIDs. An alternative approach inhibition needed prevent bleeding.
