ABSTRACT
Summary Background Atrophic gastritis and intestinal metaplasia are premalignant conditions for gastric cancer. Their reversibility by Helicobacter pylori eradication remains controversial. Aim To evaluate the of atrophic H. with long‐term follow‐up. Methods 598 subjects were prospectively enrolled followed up to 10 years. They categorised as ‐negative (n = 65), non‐eradicated 91), ‐eradicated 442). Histological assessment was performed antrum corpus Sydney classification. Results follow‐up regularly at 1, 2, 3‐4 ≥5 years, mean 1.07 ± 0.21, 2.29 0.83, 3.93 1.02, 6.45 1.28 respectively. in gradually significantly (both P < .05 all timepoints) improved only group compared that baseline. Significant difference between groups disappeared from 1‐year Similarly, comparison years 3 corpus. Conclusion may be a preventative strategy intestinal‐type cancer regression metaplasia.
