ABSTRACT
Abstract Unionized workers tend to be less satisfied with their jobs than non‐union counterparts. Despite 40 years of research that has sought explain this phenomenon, the causes relationship are not fully understood. Drawing on nationally representative panel data from UK, study uses quasi‐experimental methods compare how job satisfaction union members and counterparts changes in response an exogenous event. Results suggest working conditions rather behaviour unions more likely cause member dissatisfaction.
