ABSTRACT
Abstract Previous work has demonstrated the presence of a number exhumed hydrocarbon traps in central East Greenland. Re‐evaluation stratigraphy alongside detailed investigation occurrence bitumen within Mols Bjerge and Laplace Bjerg provides new perspectives on these structures, as well petroleum geology Greenland wider North Atlantic. Sedimentological stratigraphic studies, augmented with palynological provenance investigations, have constrained dating correlation strata exposed Bjerg. Petrographic analysis, analysis identified, highlighted much distribution than previously recognized. It was considered that Jurassic formed main reservoir interval traps. is shown here intervals trap lie Late Triassic Ørsted Dal Vega Sund members, which contain up to 18% pyrobitumen were misidentified Jurassic. The Bristol Elv Formation most extensively stained unit trap. However, occurrences (up 3%) are recorded throughout stratigraphy, including Early Wordie Creek Formation. Faults, thick calcrete development regionally continuous mudstone units play an important role compartmentalizing palaeohydrocarbon accumulations.
