ABSTRACT
Summary Objective There is debate whether hemithyroidectomy sufficient for patients with papillary thyroid cancer ( PTC ) sized 1‐4 cm. Therefore, we investigated affects recurrence rate compared thyroidectomy in Design Retrospective observational study. Patients We included 147 cm who underwent between 2004 and 2008. They were matched 298 thyroidectomy, comparing age, sex, tumour size, multiplicity, extrathyroidal extension status lymph node LN metastasis status. Measurements Recurrence‐free survival (RFS) was groups. Results Median follow‐up length 7 years, during which there nine (6.1%) 17 (5.7%) recurrences groups, respectively. the group not different from that regardless of variant, multifocality, radioactive iodine treatment. However, subgroup analysis, significantly increased risk contralateral nodules on preoperative imaging. Conclusions Recurrence after a median years. because might be favoured at evaluation, thorough evaluation lobe necessary.
