ABSTRACT
To determine the incidence of full thickness macular hole in Tasmanian population.A whole population retrospective case series Tasmania, Australia.Patients diagnosed with (confirmed by optical coherence tomography (OCT) imaging) both idiopathic and secondary causes were identified from April 2005 to 2011 a sole vitreoretinal surgeon servicing Tasmania. Baseline characteristics recorded. The six-year rate was calculated, based on 2006 census data. Incidence rates age sex standardized.One hundred forty-seven eyes 136 patients.To (age standardized) holes Australia.Idiopathic comprised 128 (87.1%). There 116 cases Full Thickness Macular Hole one or between 1 31 2011. full-thickness 24.3 per 100 000 people, 4.05 year, highest observed among women aged 70-79 years.This is first global study report OCT confirmed relatively static Australian sub-group.
