ABSTRACT
Age-related cataract is the leading cause of blindness worldwide. The pathological mechanisms causing this disease remain elusive. To examine involvement uric acid (UA) in pathogenesis posterior subcapsular (PSC).Retrospective study and experimental investigation.A total 180 patients with PSC or non-PSC were included.Samples obtained from used to analyse content UA for histochemical examinations. effects on human lens epithelial cells also investigated.Aqueous humour urate deposits. The results showed a significant increase aqueous PSC. After adjustment potential confounders, elevated (odds ratio [OR] = 1.45) stronger association than serum (OR 1.10). Gomori methenamine silver staining revealed an intense deposit urates fibres equatorial regions, regions lens. Such was not detected non-PSC. Treatment UA-induced senescence apoptosis dose dependent manner. Our suggest that level causes deposition epithelium, which could possibly lead dysfunction these generates opacification PSC.These findings indicate local action excessive Control delay progression
