ABSTRACT
To discover whether the timing of intravitreal antibiotics, from time presentation to injection, affects visual outcomes patients with endophthalmitis all causes.A retrospective study consecutive managed at Auckland District Health Board between 1 January 2004 and July 2021. The main outcome measure was final acuity follow-up proportion subjects severe vision loss (≤6/60).Three hundred seventy-four eyes were included in study, a median age 69.7 years presentation; 192 (51.6%) female. presenting hand movements hypopyon present 194 (51.9%). Cataract surgery most frequent aetiology 115 (30.7%), followed by anti-vascular endothelial growth factor injections 89 (23.8%) endogenous 54 (14.4%). Median injection antibiotics 3.5 h (Interquartile range 2-6). On multivariate analysis, early treatment associated better outcome, particularly for those treated within 2 h, while poor culture-positive worse outcomes.Rapid antibiotic administration is outcomes, receiving presentation. Patients on presentation, benefit improved following expedited treatment.
