ABSTRACT
Klebsiella pneumoniae is an important cause of community-acquired and nosocomial pneumonia. Evidence indicates that might be able to persist intracellularly within a vacuolar compartment. This study was designed investigate the interaction between macrophages. Engulfment K. dependent on host cytoskeleton, cell plasma membrane lipid rafts activation phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K). Microscopy studies revealed resides compartment, Klebsiella-containing vacuole (KCV), which traffics vacuoles associated with endocytic pathway. In contrast UV-killed bacteria, majority live bacteria did not co-localize markers lysosomal Our data suggest triggers programmed death in macrophages displaying features apoptosis. efforts identify mechanism(s) whereby prevents fusion lysosomes KCV uncovered central role PI3K-Akt-Rab14 axis control phagosome maturation. capsule dispensable for intracellular survival if were opsonized. Furthermore, environment found by triggered down-regulation expression cps. Altogether, this proves evidence survives killing manipulating maturation may contribute pathogenesis.
