ABSTRACT
Abstract Measuring progress toward international biodiversity targets requires robust information on the conservation status of species, which International Union for Conservation Nature (IUCN) Red List Threatened Species provides. However, data and capacity are lacking most hyperdiverse groups, such as invertebrates, plants, fungi, particularly in megadiverse or high‐endemism regions. policies strategies aimed at halting loss by 2020 need to be adapted tackle these shortfalls after 2020. We devised an 8‐point strategy close existing gaps reviving explorative field research distribution, abundance, ecology species; linking taxonomic more closely with conservation; improving global databases making submission spatially explicit mandatory scientific publications; developing a spatial database threats facilitate IUCN assessments; automating preassessments integrating distribution threat data; building taxonomy, ecology, monitoring countries high species richness endemism; creating programs lesser‐known taxa; sufficient funding mechanisms reduce reliance voluntary efforts. Implementing post‐2020 framework will help overcome lack regarding biodiversity. This require collaborative effort among scientists, policy makers, practitioners.
