ABSTRACT
Colophonium is a complex mixture of>100 compounds derived frompine trees.1It is commonly used, in both unmodified and modifiedforms, as a fast-acting adhesive for industrial, medical or other commer-cial uses. Although the skin-sensitizing and skin-irritant effects of colo-phonium are well known, the actual allergens have not yet all beencharacterized.2Moreover, its constituents are difficult to identify, asthey vary with climate and with extraction and storage methods.3Weherein report severe allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) caused by colo-phonium in 2 children with type 1 diabetes
