Occupational allergic contact dermatitis caused by colophonium

ABSTRACT
Colophonium is a common contact allergen that present not only in household products but also occupational settings.To describe the sources of exposure to colophonium and occupations at risk allergy.We reviewed patch test files from years 2002 2017 Finnish Institute Occupational Health for patients with allergic reactions abietic acid. We analysed test, occupation data 39 diagnosed dermatitis (OACD) caused by colophonium.Of examined suspected dermatitis, 4.6% (n = 118) reacted positively colophonium. The majority OACD worked wood industry, as machinists, or were involved soldering agriculture. most coniferous wood-derived materials, followed glues, metalworking fluids, materials. always mentioned safety sheets (SDSs), are often materials which there no SDSs.OACD quite occurs variety occupations. SDSs provide poor information assessment. Patch testing patient's own was useful establishing diagnosis.
