ABSTRACT
Benzisothiazolinone (BIT; CAS no. 2634-33-5) is used as a biocide in various products, including water-based paints, metalworking fluids, and household products. In recent years, increasing sensitization rates have been observed Europe. To describe time trend of to BIT, analyse concomitant reactions, identify patients with increased risk BIT sensitization.Retrospective analysis data from 26 739 patch tested sodium salt, 0.1% petrolatum part several special test series within the Information Network Departments Dermatology (IVDK), 2002 2021.Positive reactions were noted 771 (2.9%). Sensitization frequency varied over peaking at 6.5% 2020. Painters metalworkers handling but not cleaners, had significantly sensitization. From our data, there no evidence immunological cross-reactivity between other isothiazolinones. The justifies adding baseline series. More research on clinical relevance positive cause for rising numbers needed.
