ABSTRACT
Abstract Aim The onset of symptoms after removal the ileocaecal valve ( ICV ) may be perceived as an unwanted effect surgery and induce patients to bring unnecessary litigation against surgeons. aim our study is assess real impact on quality life whose has been surgically removed, using three validated questionnaires. Method In who had their removed surgically, Gastrointestinal Quality GIQLI questionnaire those used by European Organization for research Treatment Cancer EORTC were administered before surgery. empirical rule size method was evaluate clinical significance statistical data. Results We interviewed 225 patients. Data collected through questionnaires highlighted a trend towards postoperative improvement selected gastrointestinal compared with baseline. showed statistically significant in ‘pain’, ‘nausea’ ‘constipation’ during follow‐up. Constipation appeared more frequently older than 70 years younger ones. ‐ QLQ ‐C30 correlation between diarrhoea extended right colectomy at 3 months surgery, which not confirmed 6 months. CR 29 slight deterioration ‘leakage stools from anal opening’ but this symptom deemed clinically significant. Conclusion found that bowel functions most surgical satisfactory. Providing comprehensive exhaustive informed consent preoperative consultations could promote patient trust avoid misunderstandings.
