ABSTRACT
Natural dye extracted from the leaves of camphor ( Cinnamomum camphora ) was applied to silk fabric, with and without metallic salt mordants, using exhaust dyeing method. Three techniques, meta‐mordanting, post‐mordanting pre‐mordanting, were employed, potash alum, ferrous sulphate zinc as mordants. Dyed fabric analysed for K / S , CIE L*a*b* values, colourfastness performance washing, light crocking. Optimal results obtained at 90 °C 60 min pH 4. A yellowish shade observed when dyed a variety pale dark reddish colour shades achieved trio mordants; produced dullest darkest shades. Colourfastness washing fair good, poor fair, crocking good excellent.
