ABSTRACT
Abstract In recent years, the potential to locate endangered animals using scent trained detection dogs (conservation dogs) has gained attention. Among vertebrates, conservation have demonstrated a remarkable capacity detect of mammals, reptiles, and birds, but their use in detecting amphibians is only beginning be explored. A lack work this area surprising given that are declining faster than any other vertebrate taxa. Moreover, generally small, highly cryptic breed complex habitats, making them difficult for purpose monitoring or establishing breeding programs. This study aimed provide preliminary investigation into whether can imprinted on critically Baw frog ( Philoria frosti ) under captive conditions, then effectively wild frogs natural habitat. Two were identify P. controlled conditions before assessing ability . Both effective at locating also an live conditions. From applied perspective, our findings new evidence capable learning anuran species. They indicate forest habitat, confirming untapped aid management imperiled species previously proven detect, monitor, protect. We discuss limitations approach recommendations help direct future amphibian dog research.
