ABSTRACT
Interest in the applications of mindfulness practice education is growing scientific community. Recent research has shown that schools may be beneficial for executive functions (EFs) which are abilities crucial healthy development. The study effects practices on children's neural correlates EFs, particularly inhibitory control, provide relevant information about impact and mechanisms mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs) children. aim present was to investigate a MBI elementary school children control via randomized controlled trial. Children from two 4th grade classrooms 5th located identified as having low socioeconomic status Santiago de Chile were randomly assigned either receive or serve active controls social skills program. Both before after interventions, electroencephalographic activity recorded during modified version Go/Nogo task subsample each group. Additionally, teachers completed questionnaires students' EFs students self-report measures. Results revealed increases assessed by together with improved P3 amplitude associated successful response inhibition who received compared controls. These results contribute understanding ways can promote development EF improvement, factors critical emotional positive mental health. RESEARCH HIGHLIGHTS: This investigated intervention EFs. performed while an Improvements increased Nogo-P3 found. could understand how vulnerable populations.
