ABSTRACT
To compare systematically the impact of two novel insulin-dosing algorithms (the Pankowska Equation and Food Insulin Index) with carbohydrate counting on postprandial glucose excursions following a high fat protein meal.A randomized, crossover trial at Paediatric Diabetes centres was conducted. On each day, participants consumed or meal similar amounts. delivered according to counting, Index. Subjects fasted for 5 h test physical activity standardized. Postprandial glycaemia measured 300 min using continuous monitoring.33 children participated in study. When compared resulted lower glycaemic excursion 90-240 after (p < 0.05) peak 0.05). The risk hypoglycaemia significantly Index (OR 0.76 vs. 0.81 Equation). There no significant difference when Index. The reduced hyperglycaemia expense an increase hypoglycaemia. were differences Further research is required optimize prandial insulin dosing.
