ABSTRACT
Abstract Aims To determine risk factors for 1‐year postpartum weight retention (PPWR) and glucose intolerance (prediabetes + diabetes) in women with a previous history of gestational diabetes (GDM) prediabetes early postpartum. Methods In this exploratory analysis the MELINDA randomized controlled trial, we report data 167 at 6–16 weeks (early) oral tolerance test after recent GDM. Results Of all participants, 45% (75) had PPWR >0 kg Compared to without PPWR, higher gain [10.5 ± 6.4 vs. 6.5 4.5 kg, p < 0.001], BMI ( 0.01) worse metabolic profile (higher waist circumference, lipid more insulin resistance) (all 0.05) both late 40.0% developed syndrome, compared 18.9% = 0.003). The only independent predictor was 0.001). 55.1% (92) (84 prediabetes, 8 Independent predictors were lower age start therapy pregnancy delivery by caesarean section (resp. 0.044 0.014). Conclusions GDM postpartum, strong while earlier during
