ABSTRACT
The aim of this study was to assess the impact standard hypoglycaemic treatment strategies on adiponectin levels and fat distribution in patients with newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).This a prospective observational 50 women T2DM, aged 64·6 ± 7·9 years treated for 12 months lifestyle modification alone (n = 24) or combination metformin 26), according current standards diabetic care clinical practice guidelines. None required insulin therapy during entire period. Total (BF), abdominal (android) hip (gynoid) were measured by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry at baseline after treatment. adiponectin, glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c) fasting glucose 3-month intervals.Baseline level low (9·37 2·81 μg/mL). Lifestyle modifications produced comparable changes levels, which not associated BF, HbA1c, regional depots. Baseline inversely correlated triglycerides (R -0·441; P 0·0007) android/gynoid ratio -0·272; 0·042). Treatment significant weight reduction (P 0·033), resulted from decrease BF% 0·044) but android gynoid depots. In postmenopausal combined levels. Weight %BF
