ABSTRACT
To demonstrate an association between magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings and pathologic characteristics in children who had surgery for medically refractory epilepsy due to focal cortical dysplasia (FCD).We retrospectively studied 110 surgery. Twenty-seven patients with FCD were included. Thirteen temporal lobe (TLE) 14 extra-temporal (ETLE). Three associated mesial sclerosis. Preoperative 3T MRIs interleaved nine controls blindly re-reviewed categorized according signal alteration. Pathologic specimens classified the 2011 International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE) classification compared MRI studies.Rates of pathology subtypes differed TLE ETLE (χ2 (3) = 8.57, p 0.04). type I was more frequent TLE, whereas II ETLE. In group, tip abnormalities. They all exhibited gray-white matter blurring decreased myelination white hyperintense signal. Blurring involved whole tip, not just area dysplasia.
