Experiences and expectations of receiving volunteer services among home‐based elderly in Chinese urban areas: A qualitative study

The various complex needs for assistance among home-based older adults have increased dramatically. Thus, it would be advantageous to recruit volunteers with medical knowledge and a better understanding support assist the elderly living in urban communities.This study aimed explore experiences expectations of receiving volunteer services Chinese areas. DESIGN, SETTING AND PARTICIPANTS: A descriptive qualitative was conducted following Consolidated Criteria Reporting Qualitative Research (COREQ) guidelines. This performed two communities Wuhan, Hubei Province. purposive sampling method, which includes criterion maximum variation sampling, used identify select diverse range participants. Semistructured face-to-face interviews 20 (aged 62-90 years old) were performed. conventional content analysis method thematic analysis.Three categories associated subcategories identified: including negative positive experiences; specific involving physiological, psychosocial, health-related behaviours environmental domains; characteristics expected availability, formats, recipients, providers service strategies.The provided found unsatisfactory, lacking relevance effectiveness. Due lack family or difficulty meeting some high-level needs, expressed strong demand domains. finding can provide basis developing training plans beneficial volunteers.
