ABSTRACT
Podoplanin expression in cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) has been proposed as an unfavourable indicator squamous cell carcinoma of the lung, but little is known about its clinical significance early-stage lung adenocarcinoma. We evaluated prognostic impact podoplanin patients with pathological stage (p-stage) IA adenocarcinoma categorised by 8th edition tumour-node-metastasis classification for cancer.Immunohistochemical analyses using anti-podoplanin antibody were performed on resected specimens from 158 p-stage When more than 10% cancer cells or CAFs showed immunoreactivity podoplanin, classified podoplanin-positive. Podoplanin-positive status (n = 8) was not correlated clinicopathological factors patient prognosis. 41) significantly poorer tumour differentiation (P < 0.001), presence lymphatic invasion 0.001) and high-grade (solid and/or micropapillary) components constituting ≥1% entire 0.001). The log-rank test that podoplanin-positive associated shorter disease-free survival (DFS) disease-specific 0.015). In Cox's multivariate analysis, had most significant effect DFS [hazard ratio (HR) 4.411, P 0.004], followed (HR 3.581, 0.013).Podoplanin could be independent predictor increased risk recurrence
