Provision of services to persons experiencing homelessness during the COVID‐19 pandemic: A qualitative study on the perspectives of homelessness service providers

ABSTRACT
This study aimed to explore the perspectives of homelessness service providers on impact COVID-19 pandemic provision, barriers encountered and learning for future. Semi-structured online interviews were conducted with (n = 15) identified through network services operating within United Kingdom. Data transcribed verbatim analysed thematically using framework technique. Six key themes including health well-being persons experiencing (PEH); changing needs users during pandemic; emergency provision housing support offered; adaptations; sustainability learnings from pandemic. Participants described that being able offer accommodation government schemes provided protection PEH 'wrap-around support'. The was deemed have precipitated change developed resilience in some services. However, lack resources, donations sponsors constrained forcing many close or reduced Reduced face-to-face contact ability skills sessions led exacerbation mental concerns amongst clients. also encouraged positive relationship building between clients providers, better communications effective PEH. There is a need address barriers, sustain enable organisations adapt transition when transient local councils ends.
