Among patients who died of cardiovascular diseases (CVD), we assessed causes death, temporal trends relative distribution ED versus hospital. Methods Using United States Nationwide Emergency Department Sample, conducted a retrospective study presenting to with primary diagnosis CVD between 2006 2014. We used descriptive statistics describe deaths, location death. Results During period, there were 27 144 508 visits diagnoses (~2% all visits,). The most common heart failure (n = 8 571 598), acute myocardial infarction 4 827 518) atrial fibrillation/flutter 713 241). There total 2.2 million caused by CVD, majority (57.6%) occurring ED. Cardiac arrest was cause in-hospital death 1 225 095, 55.3%), followed 279 310, 12.6%), 217 367, 9.8%), intracranial hemorrhage 168 009, 7.6%) ischemic stroke 151 615, 6.8%). proportion for these 91.9% cardiac 173 471), 3.6% 46 909), 1.0% 12 599) 1.1% 13 579). decrease CVDs over time. Conclusions Inpatient admissions their associated may not be robust measure national burden since death—which some conditions—are captured.
