Analysis of the use of isotretinoin as an adjuvant in rhinoplasty

ABSTRACT
Abstract Background Isotretinoin has been used in the treatment of acne for decades through reduction sebaceous secretion. There are reports literature that isotretinoin may be associated with decreased skin thickness, especially patients thick nasal whom rhinoplasty can more challenging. The objective this study was to quantify, ultrasonography, effect use oral undergoing rhinoplasty, pre‐ and postoperatively. Methods Twenty‐four participated randomized, single‐blind controlled pilot clinical trial. intervention group (20 mg/day) 2 months before 4 after. Both groups underwent same plastic surgery department were submitted high‐frequency (22 MHz) ultrasound evaluation epidermis dermis on dorsum, tip, left nose wing at beginning 6 after aim assessing changes thickness. Results Six a statistically significant observed thickness dorsum wing, as well but only group. results satisfaction questionnaire better both groups, no statistical difference between them regarding specific questions; however, had significantly higher scores than control Conclusions effective reducing covering evaluated sites.
