ABSTRACT
Summary This study aimed to evaluate the antimicrobial and antibiofilm activities of two procyanidins isolated from an ethyl acetate extract laurel wood against a selection foodborne pathogens. The analysis by HPLC – DAD / ESI MS allowed us detect presence procyanidins, which were selectively identified chromatographic spectroscopic means as cinnamtannin B‐1 ( 1 ) procyanidin B‐2 2 ). Procyanidins exhibited biological activities: inhibition bacterial growth at high concentrations prevention biofilm formation lower concentrations. Synergistic effect was also detected when both compounds tested in combination Listeria monocytogenes . Significant effects on disruption preformed biofilm. ability inhibit microbial synergistically work with each other may stimulate market natural food preservatives, and/or sanitisers for processing equipment where pathogens reside.
