The role of clinical pharmacists as perceived by Egyptian physicians

ABSTRACT
Clinical pharmacists play an important role in ensuring the safe and rational use of medicines; however, physicians developing countries may not always recognize wide scope services that a pharmacist can provide to improve patient safety achieve clinical outcomes. The aim this study was investigate perceptions experience regarding pharmacists, pharmacists' ability perform services, their acceptance new roles extent collaboration occur between two disciplines.In cross-sectional survey, 583 randomly selected from Grand Cairo area were invited complete survey composed 25 questions designed determine pharmacists.The response rate 53%. Of 312 who completed questionnaire, 50.5% reported direct contact with using as source information about name medication, side effects, drug interactions or efficacy main role. About one-third believed could be reliable information, identify clinically related problems advise medication's cost effectiveness. More than 80% agreed should have daily cooperation, face-to-face best method communication.Although proportion aware pharmacy principle, service itself is well promoted applied. Greater effort needs directed towards increasing physicians' awareness knowledge importance promote benefit service.
